Pondering a Dental Career

February 26, 2010
A dentist is educated to aid patients whether old or young, sick or healthy, economically disadvantaged or a patient with special physical demands, to obtain and keep a sound mouth. A dental career includes but is not limited to; oral disease diagnosis, interpretation of tests and x-rays, oral emergencies and traumas, the promotion of oral health including treatment plans, monitoring the development of teeth, cosmetic enhancements, oral surgery and research. Although this listing isn’t conclusive, it exhibits a broad variety of opportunities for those interested in a dental career.
Dental jobs also offer up the flexibleness of being a part of the public health sector, learned dentistry, global dentistry, hospital dentistry, or even being freelance and having your own private practice. And according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the demand for dentists continues to grow well into the 21st century with an average income being in the top 5% of U.S. reported income for families.
A vocation in academic dentistry involves several arenas; patient care, research, community servicing and teaching. As a dentist in a private practice, you can either be alone, or choose to work with one or two others in a small partnership, still maintaining possession of your practice. A dental career in the public health sector can be quite assorted, with its focus being more concentrated on communities. Particular opportunities such as provision of dental care on an Indian reservation, or inside a Federal Prison are just a few of the openings utilized to encourage oral health in more of a community setting. The National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, as well as colleges and universities are good examples of the assorted available working environments if you choose the research side of dentistry.
Dental careers involve more than than the social neighbourhood dentist. There are dental assistants, dental hygienists, and dental lab technicians; each one a vital function of an important squad with one goal. Dental assistants offer patient care, lab and office aid; from sterilization of equipment to ensuring the patient’s chair is comfortable while waiting for the dentist. During procedures, a dental assistant may hand instruments to the doctor, suction a patient’s mouth as well as offer info regarding general oral health. The duties of dental hygienists are very particular. According to the Bureau of Labor, they remove soft & hard deposits from teeth, teach patients about oral hygiene, and provide other preventive dental care. They study patients’ teeth & gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities. A dental lab tech fills prescriptions from dentists for dentures, crowns, bridges, and other dental prosthetics.
The unique field of dental care provides rewarding and cutting edge job opportunities in the world of oral health. With the advance of technology and its existing path, a career in dentistry is both challenging & rewarding.

Getting Real Interviews at Career Faires

February 10, 2010

Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your job hunting. Job Faires are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a San Jose Area Job Fair in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 job fairs scheduled for this year across the United States.

How do you get to the real interviews at a Career Fair? The contention can be substantial, but you can help yourself stick out from the crowd with advance homework. At AA-Careers, we have a simplified six-step process to prepare. Plan to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the organizations that are going and pick your targets. Use the internet to research the companies that are there before you even decide to go. Go to their websites and see if they have their jobs listed. Pick a moderate number to target, and get ready to spend about an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than seven in a day, and five or six is a much more reasonable target. For each company, you want to know: executive names, recent news, and key product lines. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the company is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the requirements of the job. Make the terminology match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘brief sales pitch’ for each likely organization/position combination. Write down a 60 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat verbally showing why you are a special candidate for that job. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the company at the job booth.

Fourth, modify your resume for each opportunity. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re aiming for. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job description. Especially at a Career Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be simple to see that you’re a fit based on your resume.

Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be fittingly groomed. Don’t overdress (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.

Finally, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each spot - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a distinctly labeled folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

Remember this as well, some of the articles and other resources have great info on how to go about obtaining the grant you are seeking, so take the time to READ!Small business grants are a great way to fulfill your goals of becoming a business owner. There are billions of dollars available from the government and corporations in business grants and loans. Administration hasn had any start up grant programs for women since the 1980s. It soon became apparent that “women business grants” were usually specially packaged and marketed loans for “for profit” initiatives. After just a few phone calls, I learned about several local resources for entrepreneurs that could not only help me make my way through all the funding options, but would also help me grow my business, provide me with a mentor, and connect me with other small businesses who might need my services. The government is desiring to offer grants for more efficient and less polluting machinery and production methods. This would mean that polluting businesses can become “greener” and at the same time is able to reap the benefits of a well deserved government business grant. How To apply for a Government Grant:As we mentioned earlier, a business grant can be difficult to receive. Source: Richard Caring

My Search for AGeneral Dentist

January 3, 2010

It all originated with what I presumed was a toothache, but it turned out to be a much larger matter. I started looking for a dentist in Albuquerque. I started my search in the Yellow Pages, but shortly saw that I would be well suited on the Internet. Google was a great start. I also found a couple of review internet sites that noted certain general dentist with strengths that I was looking for. I was able to read what other people had said about the dental practitioners. Some had bad reviews and some had good reviews.

After much research, I decided to go with Doctor James Zimmer DDS in Albuquerque, NM. He was neighborly and so was his staff. I felt comfortable with his level of expertise. He seemed very educated about my condition. It turns out my simple tooth ache was going to require more than just a filling. I needed a root canal. My first thought was that I wasn?t going to be able to afford such a procedure. Then Dr. James Zimmer, DDS told me about a financing option he had available to his patients. The financing is no interest for a year and the monthly payments were low-priced.

This left me with some room in my wallet to afford the porcelain veneers that I always wanted. My teeth came out beautifully and I?m much more positive about my smile now. The only regret that I make is that I didn?t find Dr. Zimmer earlier. I highly recommend James Zimmer, DDS and his cosmetic dentistry services.

Finding a Job Using the Web to Succeed

December 30, 2009

A modern job hunting campaign is by nature pretty Byzantine. While the web has offered a variety of new channels, it also creates increased competition for choice jobs and potential challenges for job hunters.

Job hunting needs to be thought of as a personal, extremely directed marketing operation where you are the product. Your resume is an advertisement. Your extended network of contacts is your source for job leads.

So where does the net fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on a popular job board and got hundreds and hundreds responses in a week. For one job. That’s increased competition for job openings.

Had a strong candidate called us before we placed the ad, they could have landed the position prior to having all that competition. How? By knowing an employee at our office who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone was aware of the job for at least 9 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be sure to check your application matierials carefully! When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily taken out with a speedy triage process. How? The same way any HR professional would. By passing over resumes where the objective didn’t match our job description. By eliminating prospects whose cover letters gave us causes not to hire them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating candidates whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by passing over job hunters who didn’t bother to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the good news is that job sites give you a sense of what companies are hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those positions are posted, the competition is intense. You can still compete, if you have a well honed resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another thing to be aware of is how quickly you can be looked up on the net. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some personal web pages that were in questionable taste. Nothing larcenous, but enough to tilt our thoughts about who to employ.

AA-Careers provides a broad set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.

Be careful out there, and good hunting!

Secret Way to save Money when Buying Your Eyeglasses

December 20, 2009

If you need to buy your eyeglasses in the near future, you may be shocked at how much they cost. With advances in technology, there are more alternatives to choose from and obviously, these come at an increased price. Spectacles are the only feasible way to bring sight to many visually impaired. Specs are corrective lenses mounted in frames that help those with vision problems see clearly.

As long as you select your vendor carefully, you will get the same quality product that you most likely would have received from your street based optician, but at a far lower price.

There are lots of online spectacle shops to choose from and you need to find one that you can trust: This may be trickier than when you actually meet a person face to face, but it isn’t impossible. Look at their website and find out who is behind the venture and decide whether or not they are the kind of people you want to work with. Once you have found a trustworthy person to sell your eyeglasses, use them to buy your spectacles. If you are keen on your spectacles, then tell your friends about them too.

You Might Struggle to Purchase a Home

October 14, 2009

The population of Australia is up in arms about the price of letting real estate. The boosts have been great in some regions and it is not unusual to find of leases rising by more than 45% over the past few of years. It is a position that has left many individuals clambering to pay off all the essential bills.

Worsening an already tough state of affairs, future predictions point to more anguish for tenants in the years to come. The first home owners gift has been accountable for over 50,000 renters taking the dive into property ownership since October last year. Now that the grant is being scaled back, there will naturally be more renters in the market to increase demand and fuel the next wave of rental price rises.

Unemployment numbers are also expected to rise, which in turn brings more new players into the rental marketplace. The national emptiness rates are currently under 4%, with this number due to contract even further over the next couple of years. But low vacancy values and higher demand arent the only causes behind the rent rises. Householders are also being hit with greater bills such as local authorities rates and insurances, and tenants are becoming more loose with rent payments and correctly keeping the property. Rents need to increase so the investors can make ends meet. To make things harder renters will also need to look for house insurance compare

Home owners are often quick to remark that renters should stop sounding off about the prices and buy their personal homes. But this criticism should be directly at the people who have a choice between purchasing and renting, rather than the battlers who have no other choice but to rent. The reality is that while it might seem like a logical and simple idea, it is just not that simple to buy a home today.
